Letter from the A-M PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION
September 15, 2011

Dear A-M Alumni,

During the course of this summer, several individuals have been working to create and implement the Anselmo-Merna Parent Teacher Organization. The purpose of our group is to support the A-M schools in its programs, activities, and events and t foster communication among all involved. We have many goals and ideas for this year including educational support, promotional activities and volunteerism within the school. Our membership quickly grew to a large number of energetic individuals who have a true desire to enhance our children’s educational experiences for the betterment of our communities.

In July, we began raising funds for our first project, which is an art/technology program. Anselmo-Merna School currently has an outstanding art program, with vision of doing even more for our students. The project that the PTO is working toward includes a high—quality color printer, student-use digital cameras, a photo scanner, the Photoshop program, and other supplies.

Art teacher Ed Jackson plans to use this equipment to teach photography skills that produce results. Along with the photography skills, students will learn to use the Photoshop program to edit, create, restore, design, scan and so much more. These skills will benefit them in all walks of life, whether they pursue photography as a career or use the skills in their own daily lives. A-M students will also be better prepared for college with the ever-changing technology-related assignments and projects. In addition to art class, this high-tech equipment can also be used in business and yearbook classes and also for screen printing and other projects needed by the school and community. It is anticipated that the art classes will be able to make enough money using the new equipment to become self-sufficient and pay for consumable supplies each year.

Our fundraising goal for this project is around $10,800 with component prices as follows:

We are hoping to have the photography equipment in place as soon as possible. Mr. Jackson has already prepared a photography/technology curriculum and it would be great if our kids could benefit from that curriculum for a large part of this school year. In order to make this happen, we are asking for the assistance of local businesses and alumni in the form of donations. Any donation that you could give would be greatly appreciated. Please mail your tax-deductible donation to Dawn West (PTO Treasurer); 365 N. Thomas ; Merna, NE 68856. If donation amount totals are in excess of our current project goal, they will be applied to future projects to benefit A-M education or activity programs.

lf you have any questions, please call or e-mail Connie at (308) 880-0557/jcchandler@nebnet.net or Angie at 880-1366/angmill@bbps.org. Thank you, in advance, for your support.

The Anselmo-Merna Education Association Needs Your Help
(by Rhonda Hoyt)

January 25, 2011 - College costs are rising at a tremendous rate each year.  At Anselmo-Merna Schools, we think it is extremely important to help kids financially by continuing to build the Anselmo-Merna Community Alumni Scholarship fund so money will be available for deserving high school seniors.

Donations are necessary from former alumni and community members to help students realize their potential. Thanks to your continuing generosity, the scholarship fund now totals $77,362.96 plus interest. All donations are tax deductible. Please give what you think you can to this worthy cause. All information regarding the donors will be published in the school newsletter.

NOTE TO A-M ALUMNI: The officers of the Anselmo-Merna Alumni voted on and passed a resolution to combine the Alumni Scholarship fund with the Community Scholarship fund for the sake of avoiding confusion with the two different funds. We encourage all alumni to be generous in their donations to the A-M Community Alumni Scholarship fund.
